When looking for a way to say "Thank You" to special employees, business associates, venders of excellence, or the secretarys that never let you down: consider the gift of relaxation.

I have heard the comment: “If I had a hammock I would never get anything done.” This is absolutely, without a doubt a serious error in thought process, quite likely brought on by too much stress caused by production demands with raised levels of difficulty because of lack of time invested in planning.

In my experience, I have accomplished the very best strategizing and planning sessions in a hammock: taking a break from the task at hand to contrive a better blueprint to attain goals faster, easier and cheaper. This has worked well for me, more than once and that is no bull chip.Available work force labor allocations, telephone contacting with clip board, prioritizing goals and renovating sedueling are all tasks easily or best managed horizontal. If you try it you will like it.

Ok,Ok I know that sounds like retail jaw banging so lets go to what I think we all agree is the higher authority.

John Steinbeck as quoted from:

"The Log from The Sea Of Cortez" Penguin books/buy it.

March 28,1940

"After collecting on Coronado Island and the preservation and labeling of specimens we found we were very tired. We had worked constantly. On the morning of the 28th we slept. It was a good thing,we told ourselves;the eyes grow weary with looking at new things;sleeping late ,we said, has its genuine therapeutic value;we would think better for it and we would be able to work more effectively. We have little doubt this is true, but we wish we could build as good a rationalation every time we are lazy. For in some BEASTLY way this fine laziness has got itself a bad name.It is easy to see how it might have come into disrepute,if the result of laziness were hunger. But it rarely is.Hunger makes lazyness impossible. It has even become sinful to be lazy.We wonder why.One could argue, particularly if one had a gift for laziness, that it is a relaxation pregnant with activity,a sense of rest from which directed effort will arise, whereas most busyness is merely a kind of nervous twitch. How can such a process have become a shame and a sin?Only in laziness can one achieve a state of contemplation which is a balancing of values,a weighing of oneself against the world and the world against itself.A busy person cannot find time for such balancing. We do not think a lazy man can commit murders, nor great thefts, nor lead a mob.He would be more likely to think about it and laugh. And a nation of lazy contemplative men would be incapable of fighting a war unless their very laziness were attacked.Wars are the activities of busy-ness/business. A good and leisurely state of mind had come over us which had nothing to do with the speed and duration of our work.It is very possible to work hard and fast in a leisurely manner,or to work slowly and clumsily with a great nervous ambition."

This attitude may not fit the current corperate culture but it's comming on strong in architecture, art and agriculture and it really does work, well.

The only thing wrong with devising the perfect plan is you never know when it’s finished and an hour in a hammock adds a day to your life. You get the picture, do the math.
